Iran is the second largest economy in middle east and north africa. Iran's GDP is 400 billion dollars in 2011 and the population is 78 million. Iran focuses on infrastructure projects. There are clear demand-side drivers that will underpin a growing effort to invest in the country's built infrastructure, notably annual demand for new housing units estimated at 1.5mn a year. Annual turnover in the construction industry amounted to $38.4 billion in 2005 and $32.8 billion in 2011. Seventy percent of Iranians own their own homes.Because of poor construction quality, many buildings stand in need of anti-seismic reinforcement or renovation.Iran also has a large dam building industry.Construction is one of the most important sectors in Iran accounting for 20–50% of total private investment in urban areas and one of the prime investment targets of well off Iranians.
